Should I go get my A+ Certification or go to college?

Question by Daniel: Should I go get my A+ Certification or go to college?
I have been reading many mixed reviews in this area only having the A+ Certification. But, it seems like those without are lost because the A+ cert is the “industry standard”. So what is it?

I honestly have small clue what to do with my life, but the more I study notebook systems, the more I like in this area it. I was signed up into my local CC for a 4 year degree but will it be worth it? The reason I question is because, let’s say I get my A+ cert. I get a job at a local shop or at Best Buy, while getting a further certification. I would be lucky making 30K a year with my A+ since I wouldn’t be investing thousands in a 4 year degree.

So with, say a year, I have “hands on” experience working on repair with A+ and a further cert. Then hopefully I get to work on software while getting a further cert. And so on and so on. Is this a smart road to go? Not too many jobs but computers will be always be here, right? $ 1,483.32 for the A+ prep course, making 30K at the entry level sounds very intriguing.

I want to work with computers. Please anyone with private experience like to shime in?

Employers typically want a combo of a degree and the certification. But you don’t necessarily need an entire bachelors. You should be able to find employment with just an associates in notebook science (or correlated) and the certifications. If you did complete your bachelors, it’s be a higher level job; but the associates plus certs, *plus* job-correlated work experience via an internship, part-time job, or volunteer work, should get you a job in your field.

One thing that can happen, though, is that based on the fact that you have the associates in progress, once you get the certification, you may possibly get hired based on the cert and the *in progress* degree. So that’s an option for you, if interested.

A+ cert isn’t anywhere at the same feature of a degree, not even of a release course. I did the A+ and studied for one week intensively and passed with flying colors at the highest percentile score. No prep course, I just bought a release book to do it. This is no hidden secret either; A+ is a terribly simplistic test well known to employers.
