Question by Max G: When do college football teams begin preseason training?
More specifically, at what time during the summer would a freshman recruit be required to start attending practices? Does it change based on the Division that the school is in? Would the freshman recruit be able to hold a summer job that required him to work two days a week prior to mid-july, at which point he would be working 24-7 until the second week in August?

It all depends on the player's situation. If they leave as an early attendee, they start taking college classes in the spring and start working out with the team immediately and practicing as soon as spring ball starts up. Each Division has an earliest possible date for practices to start, usually a month or more before the first game. If the recruit is going to D-3 mid August is the typical reporting time, D2 is usually around then as well. Most D1 players start earlier to get into workouts and the like with the team, but it really depends on what division. Check ncaa.org they may have the formal reporting times, but I would think they could work a job like that...provided you mean reasonable hours, and not literally 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

It really does vary from program to program and their roster situations and needs. It could be anywhere from early July to 1st week in August.
