i am going to be a senior in high teach next year, and am plotting to take chemistry and psychology at a community college during the summer. but when i questioned my sister, she said something in this area not taking them because it looks terrible to have community college courses on your record if the courses are required for your future major. is this right? i want to go to a UC or possibly stanford. thankfulness

No, not at all. It may be terrible if you don’t pass both classes which it will show up in your high teach transcript. Be sure to find more information by visiting the community college’s counselors in this area classes that are offered for high teach students. Just remember that High teach chemistry is perfectly uncommon than College chemistry. Excellent luck.

F**k no! Going to community college for the first 2 years betters your chances at getting into a university of your choice.q

That is perfectly untrue. Classes taken at a community college are looked at no differently than those taken at four year colleges. You should be fine if you take chemistry and psychology at a community college over the summer. It won’t affect your ability to get into UC or Stanford at all. You’ll really have a few credits out of the way already, so you’ll be a small ahead of the game! Don’t listen to your sister and go ahead and take them. Excellent luck!

It’s not terrible at all! It can’t hurt to be more educated, right? If you take community college courses with the intent of transferring the credits to a university you’ll want to be sure the credits transfer to satisfy requirements or that you’re willing to invest in the credits as a foundation for the same classes at a university level in the future. Having transfer credits should never hurt you and you just need to friend an advisor or research online for each of those schools and see how the credits transfer.

Some majors/colleges/universities have restrictions so that you can’t transfer credits for certain requirements. Or if you’re required to take 200-level chemistry and you take 100-level chemistry and transfer, you’ll have the credits, but they won’t be applied headed for the 200-level requirements. But, this does give you the opportunity to be more prepared for whatever you may be required to do and that can’t hurt either!

Just research and find out how the credits will transfer to help you or not. Be sure to know the answer for each teach and possible major you’re looking at!

    Excellent luck!

No, I don’t see why it would be terrible, Community College can get a terrible rap because it is generally the cheapest option for college and they don’t have high standards when it comes to who they accept. Grades for example don ‘t have to be outstanding, you don’t always have to take the SATs or ACTs and virtually everyone will be accepted.
At the same time community colleges are often the gateway to higher and more prestigious colleges (like Stanford) As long as your grades reflect that you have been working hard in college, than there is no reason why a college like Stanford would reckon less of you for going to a community college to take required courses for your major.

hell no! both uc’s an many privates including stanford accept transfer students. as long as you get excellent grades you will be fine. I did that with high teach and i’m transfreing this fall!!!

  6. No, that’s dumb. It’s very common that students go to CC to save money, then transfer to a 4 year university. My cousin went to one of the top private schools in the country, yet took classes at CC during the summer to save money. It’s just a smart thing to do!

But, there are a lot of dumb people in CC and most of them drop out. Summer is fantastic though because only serious students go to teach during the summer.
