Question by gurl938: Is it better go get my Pharmacy Technician training through a community college or a drugstore?
I have been accepted to a 6 month Pharmacy Technician program at my community college where the tuition will cost $ 5,000. With researching online, I have found that Walgreens and CVS will really train you on the job and get you certified. The program at my college offers help in job placement. Do you reckon employers prefer that I went to an actual college to earn my education or training through a drugstore?
I would hope to eventually work at a hospital

  1. I love proper grammar says:

DRUG STORE! Walgreens likes to hire only certified pharm techs. BUT CVS will hire people with no training to be a pharm service associate and they train you to be a pharm tech and will even pay you to go take the national certification test.
Once you are nationally certified you can work anywhere. You can work in a hospital.
It is better to work and get the training while you work! Dont waste your money at a training teach! I always laugh when I see those ads for pharm tech training because I know how much money all those people are WASTING!

drugstore. I am currently responsibility that now, and its a fantastic advantage! ive been a tech for 2 years, since i was 18. they train you on the job, and get licensed and certified through their program. from what i went through, i had to take 5-7 eight hour classes via telecast,(they pay for the classes through them), you fill out a database, fax it in, and get all the training you need. why would you go to teach for a year and a half to two years who “offers to help in job placement”, when you may possibly kill two birds with one marble? you may possibly be a pharmacy tech, (a excellent paying job might i add), and go to anyschool you want and take courses that you need to get more education.

i started out as a camera girl at the drugstore, then became a pharmacy tech there, and now i work as a tech in a hospital. my grandmas neighbor chose to go to teach for pharm tech, shes 40. she graduated, and the teach never helped her get a secure job placement, so now shes a nanny. so she wasted all that money, time and effort, when she may possibly have had a job as a pharm tech. hoped this helped!
