Question by DLZ: Is a person with a college degree paid more than a tech teach graduate?
I am interested in become an ultrasound technician. I am researching various options and can’t choose the best way to become certified. Would it be better to go to college and get my associate’s degree or just go to a tech teach and become certified?
What is the most appealing to a possible employer? Would they offer someone with an associate’s degree a job before they offered someone who went a tech teach a job? I already have in this area 2 years of schooling under my belt, but they’re just random G.E. courses. I’m leaning towards the tech teach because the primary focus is just on health check courses. But, I don’t want to pay for the tech teach, just to be passed over for a job if it doesn’t look as excellent on a resume.
The tech teach seems to be the best option for me now because I can focus on just the health check courses. I’m more concerned in this area whether I will be considered for a ultra sound job if I am just certified without an associate’s degree. I would assume that the rate of pay would not differ because of it. From what I have researched, tech teach’s do require you to pass the RDMS exam, so you would be licensed.
If anyone has anymore information it would be very helpful!
Thankfulness so much!

I would say that it depends on how high on the ladder and how far you want to go. To be certified to do a certain job is fantastic, but if you want to go beyond that, you will have to have more to offer in education in radiology , and a college degree will help you a fantastic deal in the future. When it comes to pay, it depends on the hospital/company you are applying at. I’ve seen where the degree has caused problems because the hospital/company wants the education side, but isn’t willing to pay alot of money, degree or not. The best thing to do would be to talk with a digit of tech. people at uncommon hospital locations in your area responsibility ultrasound testing, and judge by what they say as to what road you should take. Since this job is mainly performed in a hospital setting, you would have to be in a large hospital that had a demand and work for ultrasound technician only. With you have talked with people in the hospital radiology department, you’ll find see a need for more to offer that just responsibility ultrasound testing. Excellent Luck- Remember the road might be hard, but the rewards will be forthcoming

Every house I have ever worked, as a tech, the employer just wants to know if you are RDMS licensed. In order to get licensed, you have to go through an qualified program (hospital based or college based). Once you get your license, nobody seems to care what you did to get it.

I suppose it may possibly come up if you ever wanted to go into management or teaching in an u/s program.
