How long does it take to learn Spanish with college courses?

Question by Linden: How long does it take to learn Spanish with college courses?
I’m going to be in college for in this area 12 years because I want to be an orthodontist, and I want to be able to speak spanish well with patients. Is 12 years long enough?

Take at least four semesters of spanish classes to learn the basics, then try to get a native spanish speaker to tutor you or apply for an intensive language study abroad program. I have had four semesters of college spanish, and while I can have a very vital conversation, I’m nowhere near fluent.
