Both excellent paths. Neither are simple.
With the contemporary shape of the countries infrastructure I would reckon that
CE would be a more lucrative career path.
IT has basically lost it’s aura and with the huge influx of offshore talent and outsourcing of jobs to India and China. There are plenty of jobs for vastly skilled IT professionals but I would pick a insignificant that would also be of value to a company like Finance or Marketing. Companies want IT people would not only know notebook systems but also know business and how you can apply IT systems to business problems.
Excellent Luck

I’d choose IT because that interests me more. And that’s how you should choose, too. Both will always be in demand, but jobs aren’t guaranteed for either one.
You will need math, logic and problem-solving skills for both.

Well, engineering first of all is a tough subject to study. It involves a lot of mathematics. There are vast areas in this society that calls for engineering. Military, Federal Government, architects, power plants, other agencies who are in need of engineers. Engineering is a technology we will never run out of and is ALWAYS NEEDED. Honestly, I would go with the one that best suits this terrible economy and what interests you more. When I’m job hunting I find most of the jobs available are engineering correlated. None of those courses are simple. If you have the patience and time to learn them , then by all means know it is not always best to choose the simplest one.
First learn in this area the subjects and see what calls for the description and what jobs are available through that kind of degree
