Boxer puppy HELP! Testicles, Crate-training, College, etc?
Question by Boxergirl77: Boxer puppy HELP! Testicles, Crate-training, College, etc?
My boxer had puppies and we chose to keep two. They live inside and they are absolutely horrible! Mine is a male, and the other is a female. They are now in this area 11 months ancient, and have managed to tear up the entire cushion and padding of our chair, many decorations, the armrest and padding of our loveseat, and much more. Tonight we went out to eat for an hour tops, and come home to find the entire strip of carpet (yes, carpet that has been there as long as I can remember) has been chewed up, and the padding from underneat it is scattered in our dining room, hall way, and kitchen. My mother swept up the padding, and I place it in a garbage bag (it took up half of the bag), and my stepfather place the carpet back down. It is noticeable, and feels amusing to walk on. We have already blocked off my parents room and the living room with child/dog gates, and close my room off and my brothers’ room off any time we are not in them. With tonight, I’m to my breaking top. I like my puppy very much, and he is so cute, but I cannot allow him to continue to tear things up. I will being going off to college in August (only in this area a 30 minute drive from my house), and will have to leave him at home. My parents will not tolerate him responsibility this while I’m gone, and its frustrating to me now. What can I do?? The only thing I can reckon to do now that it is cold is to get a crate. Any other thoughts or crate-training tips would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Also…he is 11 months nearly as I said, but he still has only dropped one testicle…we have to get him neutured because of our other male, and that he is constantly around his mother and sister. Is it normal he still hasn’t dropped a further? Will he? Can we get him neutured now with only one dropped?
Thankfulness for any help!

At 11 months ancient, this dog is a crytorchid. Cryptorchism is inherited. Dogs with this condition are at high risk for testicular cancer. He should be neutered and his parents and littermates should be neutered if they are quick this on.

You should consult your vet in this area the testicle/neutering and also question them for a recommendation of a excellent behaviourist.
1. Your dog needs more exercise and needs to be crate trained. Crate training isn’t hard.. its simply a matter of making it pleasant for the dog to go IN the crate (treats, filled kong) and ignoring the dog as it comes out of the crate. NEVER let a barking dog out of a crate (unless its a cratetrained dog who is barking due to an unexpected urgent need to potty).
2. He needs to be neutered… ESPECIALLY since he is cryptorchid. Dogs with retained testicles get testicular cancer. Dogs who have bent cryptorchids (ie his sire and dam) should be removed from the genepool (spay/neuter) as this is INHERITED. This is the ONLY all inclusive disqualifying fault in AKC … and is so because of the hazard of cancer.
3. If your parents don’t want to deal with him and you cannot while you are at college, do him a favor and friend breed rescue NOW. Start working on finding him a home that is willing to train him now.
