brand doesn’t matter any more unless you’re taking into account a mac versus a windows pc
it’s all in this area the hardware inside. graphics card. monitor size. cpu speed. amount of ram. ports like usb 2, firewire, bluetooth, infrared etc. wireless.
get one with a monitor and keyboard you like. then choose cpu speed. then mac or windoze. then make sure you have enough ports. you can upgrade ram and hard drive space by getting more ram and buying an external hard drive and external burner for $ 30
Apple MacBook
New PC computers come with WIndows VISTA which is a piece of crap. People who have used PCs for years are switching to Mac.
The first thing you want to know is that there is no “best brand” of laptop. All the parts that matter come from the same places. You just pay extra for the name in most cases, even while it’s right that some companies offer extended support and communities which can add value to your buys.
The systems being offered this year have to compete with tremendous competitive pressures. I haven’t seen an ad for a notebook, laptop or desktop, in the last six weeks that wasn’t a fantastic bargain for the price.
I like toshiba. And dell. But if price isn’t an issue, then I would go for a mac one.
I had the same problem as you a few days ago when i bought my new notebook for university. I had no thought what to get, so what i suggest is that you go and enquire at a small local notebook technition (for free of course). All i did was walk in and inform them that i was going to buy a new laptop around a certain price range, and i told them what i was going to use it for (this is very vital to establish the speed of notebook you need) e.g if you are using graphic design and play games, you will need a quicker and therefore more expensive notebook. The notebook technition can also tell you which laptops have the least problems (it can be very annoying to have your laptop continually away getting fixed). One vital thing to deliberate is whether you want a normal PC that runs on “windows XP/vista” or an “apple macbook”, laptops that run on windows XP/vista have in this area 100 000 known viruses (which are aquired by using the internet) and Apple’s only have 10 known viruses. I finished up buying an Apple partly because i spend my entire life on the internet, i previously had a PC windows XP, which gave me grief the whole 3 years i had it (very slow due to viruses & therefore given up the ghost all the time). The notebook technition told me that “ASUS” and “Apple” were the best brands of laptop to buy. If you want to see apples: http://www.apple.com/au/macbook/macbook.html
There IS a best brand of laptop.
Apple. I have a Macbook. And it is incredible.
If you are smart and get a Mac instead of a PC, make sure to get the student discount. You also want to buy Microsoft Personnel because you will need to make Word files and Powerpoints. Apple has a student discount on this, also.
Go to Wal-Mart and get this.

You’ll like it. It goes really quick, and fantastic battery life.
I agree with what mostly everyone is saying on here. There is not best brand, but, you also need to be more specific as to what you will be responsibility with the notebook.
A few questions to question yourself are: What is your budget? What type of software are you going to be using? Are you a gamer? Do you want fastest flow of blood edge performance? Or are do you want mobility, something you can take to class with you and will have a decent battery life? Perhaps you want a small power and some mobility? These are all questions you should be asking us.
For example, If you were an engineering student or architect or someone that uses design software I’d recommend getting a mobile workstation from dell (the precision line) or HP.
Are you going to be gaming a ton, then be prepared to shell out some cash, at least $ 1500. Make sure it comes with the best graphics, right now the latest offering from nvidia is the 8700M GT.
If you’ll be responsibility a lot of editing, mac’s come equipped with some of the best editing software (whether it be music, photos, whatever) out there.
If you want mobility, all the major brands have some sort of small form factor notebook.
Define your needs and we will be better able to help you.
Also despite what apple would have to believe, i.e. mac are immune to all viruses, it’s not right. In the end it’s still code and any determined hacker can find a way to exploit code.
The simple fact is, if you’re notebook is connected to the internet it vulnerable, the more obtuse you are the more likely you’ll get a virus or some malware. Always be weary on what attachments you open, sites you visit, etc. Don’t buy into the apple marketing ploy that “yay my mac is invincible, so I can do whatever I want”, that’s just obtuse. I don’t despise mac I still reckon, overall OS X is a more solid and stable OS than windows, but it’s not invulnerable.
