Like any course, you get what you make of it. From what I’ve seen, any programming course is not that excellent. There is not enough actual practice writing programs and problem solving with programs. You only get this with experience writing a lot of programs or in other words, practice. Combine this with the fact that many programming problems are not just so straight forward and may be completely backward from what most might reckon.

From the digit of homework problems found in Yahoo Answers, I’d guess a excellent many students either don’t have a clue, didn’t read the book, have horrible instructors, or are just to bone idle to really do the work. It takes a lot of work to really learn programming and while the C programming language is really small and simple, the standard libraries more than make up for it.

If you find that you do need help in C programming, at least show your attempt and clarify where you reckon you went incorrect. Reading other people’s programs and understanding them is a talent all by itself sometimes.

  1. Mach says:

A class which features a weekly lab will be much more beneficial than one without. The only real way to learn any language is by writing the code yourself. A class which has many coding assignments to reinforce each lesson will help to enrich your understanding.

But, in the end, what you get out depends on what you place in. If you are willing to do the work, you will generally have a firm understanding of the language. If you aren’t willing to place much effort into it, you will not get much out of the class.
