How do you choose courses in university?
Question by Kylie: How do you choose courses in university?
So I’m a high teach student who’s been told to start looking at my options, distress is, I’ve no thought what postgraduate/undergraduate etc. mean.
I’m not even sure how you can chose degree combinations and stuff.
Anyone out there able to help? :\ It doesn’t have to be uni specific, although if you refer to a certain university that’s ok. I just have no thought how to go in this area choosing courses… any help is much appreciated

they have degree plans listed on your college website. just figure out what degree you want and start taking the classes. also, the basics are the same for everyone, english, maths, history, etc so if you arent sure just start taking those and figure it out later.excellent luck. also, you dont have to take them in the order listed, unless its a specific pre req example, you cant a and p 2 before you take a and p 1.

When you go to orientation, you will receive a course guide in this area the classes each majors require. In addition, you will have mandatory non-major courses to take during the 4 years (like film, english, way of life, etc.) You will be looking for undergraduate courses.
This varies from university to university, but the main thing you need to know is that you have to choose your career first. Every career has a certain list of classes you need to take to graduate with a degree in that area.
So, for example, if you’re going to study Civil Engineering you’ll need to take Physics, Calculus, Drawing, etc. You’ll probably have to take English and Chemistry as well even if it isn’t a main focus of Civil Engineering. The courses I just named though are general names for a specific subject. To better clarify this let’s say you need to take Calculus II, but you won’t be able to do that in anticipation of you discharge the per-requisite of Calculus I. You pretty much start taking a lot of general classes that will at a snail’s pace start to join into your main area of study.
When you first start University, you enter as an undergraduate. You’ll be taking your general courses as an undergraduate. Postgraduates are students that are already in their more specific area of study.
As I clarified earlier the exact process you’ll take for choosing your classes varies from University to University. You may have to make your own schedule based on the available classes or you may be provided with a schedule that’s specific for undergraduates.
I hope that was thorough.
Surely, your high teach has a guidance counselor. That is a further of her many functions, not just dealing with drugs and pregnant teens. this is a part of her job that she likes.
It is fantastic that you are plotting ahead! Most kids wait in anticipation of they are sophomores in college to question your questions.
I will give you a bit of a head start. Undergrad means some one who hasn’t graduated from college yet. So any class you take that is to GET you graduated is an undergrad Class. Sometimes, AFTER you graduate, some colleges deliberate any class not at GRADUATE level (working on a masters) is undergrad work. ASK the counselor for specifics. It is NOT a dumb question!
Postgraduate means you already have a BS or BA and are working on an master’s or PhD.
BS means Bachelor of Science and BA is Bachelor of Arts. It is a very VAGUE separation. Mostly it means that the sciences require lots of math and science classes and no language requirement other than English. A BA requires lighter math and sciences, and more English , history, Art/music classes and a FOREIGN language requirement. Some schools are a bit shadier than that. ASK the teach or read their requirements online.
Here is the advice I gave my children: for the first 2 years, do not declare a degree unless you have to for grants, and loans etc. Then once you have gotten through being a freshman, choose what you like to read in this area. For instance, if it is cars, try engineering. If it is football, try physical therapy or coaching or journalism. If you like to talk in this area and read in this area fashion, try merchandising or art.
If roses are your thing, try Botany or Microbiology. If you like to read in this area writers and artists and how they do what they do, try English or Way of life.
Whatever you already delight in reading in this area, that is your area. Remember what you wanted to do when you were 10? You are still that kid, so do what you like. Don’t worry in this area MAKING A LIVING!
TRUST THAT IF YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE, YOU WILL EXCEL AND YOU WILL BE FINE WITH MONEY. Right, it may be a struggle, but the END result will be working in an area you are passionate in this area and people will NOTICE! (PEOPLE NOTICING MEANS $ $ )
At 11, I chose I wanted to be a writer. I have been a writer all my life, even though it is onlyin the past 15 years that I am writing at work and have gotten published.
Excellent luck!
