Question by kylie g: How and where can I take university courses, I have 3 small children?
I have a DEEP seeded desire to pursue higher education and a VERY strong passion for criminal justice, the study of psychology, and an interest in law! But, did’nt make the “grade” in highschool. Now that I am all grown up and have 3 children, it seems like it is financially and realistically impossible!

I would suggest you start attending a community college for at least a year, and then transfer to a four year university. How young are your children? If they’re really young, you may possibly start by having someone watch them while they nap, and you go take classes a few times a week. These schools generally offer night classes or classes throughout the day that you may possibly work into your schedule. When your children start teach, you can take classes when they are in their own classes.

I wanted to add to what the other poster said. Community college really is your best option, because they don’t care how you did in high teach. It’s open admissions. So you can get in no matter how you did in high teach, and without needing to take (or retake) the SATs. It’s also of excellent feature, and certainly your least expensive option.

Most community colleges offer on-campus, subsidized daycare for students. You’d want to question in this area this. Most students with kids either go to teach at night, so their spouse/family can look with the kids, or group all their day classes on Tu/Th or M/W so the kids can go to the on site day care on those days.

As for financing your education, speak to someone in the financial aid personnel at the community college. They can talk you through the process of applying for aid. Most people fund their studies via loans, but depending on your income and etc., you may also get grants and etc.

To save money, a lot of people go to cc for two years, get their associates, and then transfer to a four year college for their bachelors. Completing the bachelors should take in this area a further two years.
