If one has both BS and MS degrees in the science fields & believes they would prefer teaching HS or Jr. College science over being employed in research, is it possible to teach while
pursuing certification?

According to Northern Illlinois University FAQ page you may possibly teach legally in the state of Illinois in a non-public and/or charter teach. Also you may possibly become a substitute in some cases without a certificate. For more information go to the website listed below…….

Maybe. I live in Illinois and I know many a instructor that was at charter and private schools. They are cracking down on that hardcore. If you do get a position, then it will probably be if you are teaching with some sort of temporary certificate while being enrolled in some sort of alternative certification program. I know in Chicago Public Schools now you can’t even substitute without a teaching certificate.

You will have to try out on the junior colleges though…I reckon that all you need for those are masters in a specific content area.

    Excellent Luck!
