Is it true you can teach in South Dakota without certification?
Question by Josh: Is it right you can teach in South Dakota without certification?
I have substituted for the teach district (public schools) where I live in South Dakota while I am finishing my Mathematics major in college. One of the teachers told me that one of the high teach math teachers is retiring this year and I should apply for his job because I can work on my certification while I teach as long as I pass the Praxis II in Mathematics. Is there any validity to this or is the instructor who informed me of this misinformed. Thank you for your help.

Possible. Long-term substitute teaches do not have to be qualified so there might be some sort of loop hole. Perhaps you may possibly be hired as a instructor and be given a certain amount of time to complete your certification(s)? That being said, I find it hard to believe that any teach would hire an instructor without a college degree or certification. I have friend that teaches at a Charter teach and he does not have his undergraduate degree but he has his teaching certificate.
