Question by Cassie-Dane & Tough Breed lover: online college for vet tech?
right now I am in the pennfoster online course for vet tech
I’m going to be a vet tech as well as a dog trainer.
I like both things, but I would also like to know on average what a vet tech makes yearly.
and once I become a vet tech-and if I feel like moving on to be a vet, how much schooling would that be and the average cost?
the second half of the course requires me to work under a vet

4 years of under grad college plus vet teach. The cost will vary widely depending on what financial aid you can access and what schools you ultimately choose. Personally, I reckon most vets would want a tech with lab experience, so you may want to try to find a local technical college instead where you really get to work with animals.

Personally, I wouldn’t go and be comfortable with a vet tech that only had an online degree. Hands on experience is far more valuable.
Not sure in this area the vet tech, but as for info a propos Vet teach, friend Michigan State University or go see what you can find out on their website.
a two year college in this area 12 miles from here has a vet tech training program..murray state college, tishomingo , ok, if you call the dept. i will bet someone there may possibly answer…i called a friend who does this and she makes ten an hour..excellent luck..i like animals but sick ones are accountable to bite, i don’t have the heart for it…
I work with both Vet-Techs and Veterinarians, and how much you make depends on where you work and your experience level. Vet Techs start out at around 12.00 and hour ( I live in the Cincinnati, OH area) and Veterinarians make around 60,000 a year.
The Vets I work with went to teach for around 8 years, give or take. They really do it because they care in this area animals, and not for the money- If you compare that salary with what a human doctor makes anyway! A excellent vet teach is really hard to get into as well, at least that is what I am told.
Also, I would recommend working as a vet assistant, or responsibility some type of volunteer work before you really choose. I started out wanting to become a Tech also, and I now work at a vet hospital and once I saw the “ins and outs” of how everything is run, and I see what the vets go through. I chose to go into human medicine. I still like the job, and I will probably work with animals in some aspect for the rest of my life, but making it a career is something perfectly uncommon.
Hope this helps you!!
Most new graduate vet techs start out between $ 10-$ 15 per hour depending on what part of the country they are in and what type of practice they are working in. By graduate, I mean you have passed the VTNE and have been credentialed in your state. New graduate veterinarians leave teach with approximately $ 100,000+ in student loans. Again this is not all of them but the majority.
lol I looked into that same program a couple months ago and am currently enrolled with Penn Foster (although through a uncommon course. Health check Assistant to be exact). The teach has nice certificate and very excellent programs. Anyway, to answer your question, “the median hourly earnings of veterinary technologists and technicians were $ 12.88 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $ 10.44 and $ 15.77. The underneath 10 percent earned less than $ 8.79, and the top 10 percent earned more than $ 18.68″ This and lots of other information in this area the career can be found at:

Becoming a vet will take lots more schooling. And I’m pretty sure there are no “online only” courses for veterinarian. The cost will most likely be in the 10′s of thousands once its all said and done. There are grants and financial aide available though and if its a career you like, you’ll do just fine. Just talk to your career advisor and financial advisor to make a plot.
Penn Foster is not a excellent teach, we have with my law firm has sued the teach for not furnishing grades, diploma or right study material for their courses, and the worse was the Vet Tech course.
I promise you, you will be so disappointed in them by the time you end and try to get a job, lots of their courses are not recognized..
Excellent luck
It really depends on where you work (private practice, zoo, e-clinic..) and your degree and stuff but you’ll make anywhere between $ 11-$ 16 an hour, averaging in this area $ 30,000 a year, if you’re full time.
If you want to go on to be a vet, it’s a excellent 6-8 MORE years. And that would cost anywhere from $ 150,000-$ 250,000 depending on the teach you go to.
It’s not simple either. Vet teach is really harder to get into and harder than health check teach because vets need to know in this area ALL animals. They need to know the systems of several uncommon animals, while doctors only study humans.
