Question by Grace1228: On a resume, should an EMT certification go under Education, or in its own section?
I am helping my sister-in-law create her resume, and she was certified as an EMT, which is relevant to the career field she is entering. I'm just not sure if I could put that under Education (she did get it through a college) or if it should be in a section of its own, maybe under "Certifications." Does anyone know what the right protocol is for this? Thanks!

PUT IT UNDER EDUCATION FROM SCHOOL EMT certification

Education means formal education. Education should list schooling and degrees obtained (AS, BS, MS, PhD). Certifications should be listed under “Skills”. That is what I do anyway.
I would put it under it’s own section, such as Certifications. EMT is not a degree nor do you graduate from a school. Make sure to note if she is Nationaly Certified.
If your sister-in-law did get an associate’s degree (in EMT), that should certainly go under Education. Even schooling from a county vo-tech school can be added to that section since it is ‘education’. Certifications can be mentioned as well if she did take an exam and receive notification that she is indeed certified in the field.
The local book store or library may have examples of resumes for those in the medical/allied health field. The career section of either establishment should have those types of books. Reviews from former customers may be found at http://www.amazon.com and can type into search ‘resumes’, ‘resumes for those in health care’ or such.
That’s a great question. Specialized training such as an EMT should be listed separately. It should have it’s own heading such as: Professional Training. Or, it can be listed under “special attributes,” etc.
It should go unserd education or you can create a section names Certificate if you have more than 1 certificate. thats whatt this resume agency that I used in my area, this is the email address, ([email protected]) you should try them, it only cost me $ 35.00 and I got a great job from this new resume, I never thought about the format that they use but the turn around time was less then 24 hrs. I would have to say it was the best service I have ever used and it was worth every dime. Also they let me pay through paypal.
