Question by megaprosh: Are these excellent university courses to take?
I have 5 courses to choose. I want to take:

Environmental Science
Geography
Social Welfare
Geology
English

I’m taking into account teaching at the college level, either with social welfare or outdoor courses.
I’m also really interested in environmental management.

I am wondering if I can get a correlated career in geography with a BA (hons) geography, with concentrations in environmental science.
I mean I know it’s possible, because they offer it, but would I have a harder time getting hired?

I know it’s not a Bsc, and I terribly loath advanced math. But I’m excellent with statistical math, so I don’t know why I would need copious amounts of calculus with a bsc to be hired for environmental work. Instead of taking all those math courses couldn’t I replace them with more useful environmental courses and still get hired? lol

As long as I take a lot of statistical geography math I should be alright, right? To take measurements, record calculations and input data? Like GIS and whatnot?
Really, you can teach college with a masters, in Canada at least. It’s a minimum requirement.

For the most part, nowadays, it doesn’t matter what field your bachelor’s degree is in; all that matters is that you have one. So yeah, you should be fine if you do a degree program that just has you taking statistics courses for the math requirement. You should be able to look up the required courses for that degree online, somewhere in your teach’s intranet. Otherwise talk to your advisor.

If you want to teach college, you’ll need a PhD in the field you want to teach, and which PhD programs you can get into rely a lot on what you majored in in college. BA or BS doesn’t matter for teaching college. I have a BA in physics (my teach didn’t offer a BS) but I’ll be refined with a PhD in physics soon.
