In the U.S., a college usually focuses entirely on undergraduate education and has smaller classes. Students may receive more party attention from professors, have greater access to professors, be educated directly by professors (rather than teaching assistants) even in honestly large courses, and in general delight in their education as the center of and sole reason for the teach’s educational mission. A few colleges do offer some graduate programs, but for the most part, they are all in this area educating undergraduates.
But, there are some universities where the classes are not enormous and where students also have much access to professors. Moreover, the presence of graduate programs and professional schools at universities contributes momentously to the intellectual life of a university and can therefore affect the feature of the undergraduates’ education as well.
The feature of both colleges and universities varies widely. I happen to reckon that a university experience is, in general, superior, but you can get a truly exceptional education at some of the top colleges in this country.
