Question for black and/or biracial black females?

Question by L. Ellington (RIP MJ): Question for black and/or biracial black females?
Okay, so I’m half black/half native american, which I why I addressed this question to black and or biracial females…women I can really get INSIGHT from, instead of SPECULATION.

My hair isn’t curly, it’s WAVY, and I recently got it cut shoulder length. Since then, it’s been coming out like HELL on the left side.

Since I’ve cut my hair, I’ve started wrapping it, which I was skeptical to do, because I’m not sure if that’s not a contributing factor to my problem. Being a college freshman with challenging courses may be causing a lot of stress, not to mention I’m super stressing over the NCAA championship game on Monday.

Anyway,

1-Does wrapping hair cause shedding?
2-May possibly an irregular menstrual cycle lead to sheeding?
3-Do you know of anything that can stop the fissure?

As far as I know, wrapping won’t cause shedding - it should protect your hair. The hormone imbalance that may possibly be behind an irregular menstrual cycle certainly has the potential to cause problems with your hair - it may possibly be a cause of your hair shedding. To stop the fissure, your hair needs lots of dampness, and you need to avoid putting stress on it like tight braids/ponytails or heat and chemical treatments. i agree wrapping your hair does not cause fissure like that…. are you wrapping and sleeping with a silk scarf?

As far as the stress and the irregular period thing i also agree with that because i too deal with the same thing and as much as people say eliminate the stress its a hard thing to really do…

As for me because my fissure was in the crown of my head (and it wasn’t from ponytails or nothing like that because i dont wear them) i’ve recently started wearing nu-locs … just to give my hair a break from sew ins and pressing…. i use a amalgamation of doo-gro and olive oil to oil my scalp every other day and i know this may sound nasty but i pro’ly wash my hair every two, two in half… the more you wash the dryer our hair gets… if you do wash like that (since you play b-ball) i would advice deep conditioning and hot oil treatments on a fixed.. you know to replace what you are stripping away when washing…

Also try to wear loose styles with your natural texture…. you know like some times i just wear my fro…. a further way to just give my hair a break from ME… try styles like that maybe some tiny braids or twist in the front and let the rest naturally flow and gently place it up when you gotta play n practice…

All in All condition and oil your hair and scalp on the fixed and try some of the those styles at least for a small while…. oh and i use to whole line of doo-gro products… a further thing “we” tend to do … mixing products…. i have learned that too if you are going to use a brand of product use the whole line… i chose doo-gro because it really does have essential ingredients necessary for healthier hair and works well for me and even people who i’ve suggested it to..
