Do i need to go to college for auto mechanic career?

Question by Brandon Nelson: Do i need to go to college for auto mechanic career?
I know it sounds obtuse but im starting a vocational teach program in a couple weeks and i was wondering if since im taking an automotive course in vocational teach, they train to me to have both paper and field work, and train me to pass the ASE certification test, i know it would help but would i need to or should i go to college for it too?

Not necessary, and I’m not sure what that would get you in the automotive field, unless you were going for business major.

Before you comitt to a career painstakingly investigate what it pays what skills you need and if you can get a job. DO NOT just take the person selling you the training word for it. Do the foot work yourself , go talk to some auto repair shops and question them if they would hire you if you were trained in XYZ.
