Question by Eric: The 3 and 6 credits system in University courses?
I wonder if I posted this question before but because I did not see it on Answers, I chose to post it again. Now, in this area a week ago, a friend of mine at work questioned me why the University courses were given in numerals of 3s and 6s. Now that question has also got me wondering in this area it. Why are course credits given numerals of 3s and 6s instead of 1s, 2s, 4,s or even some other numerical forms. Is there any signifincance to this systerm being carried out in many Universities? I’d appreciate your answers.

I reckon each university/college is uncommon. At my college there were 1 credit courses like gym. But, there were also 4 credits and 6 credits courses as well. Usually labs are more than 3 credits because of the level of work that is caught up. I am unsure if the digit system used correlates with the digit of credits that are required for graduation. I hope this helps?

Well, I always figured it had to do with how many classroom hours you’ve got. Typically at my university, if you take a 3 credit class, you’ve got 3 hours of address to attend each week. If you take a 6 credit class, you’ve still have 3 hours per week, but for the full year making it twice that of the 3 credit course.

It might be uncommon at your teach though!
