Question by steve: Community college or university for starting in computers Information Technology(IT)?
i am 20 and just refined basics at the university of houston. i want to enter the IT field starting off as a hardware tech then maybe network admin and explore all the options in that arena. would it be better to take courses at a tech or community college or tech teach right now than it would be to take some at UH? the courses at UH seem to focus more on business and high end programing more than the other stuff. it seems like at a community college or tech teach id learn a lot more in this area the kind of stuff i want to learn. Any experienced IT people have suggestions?

Always start with a community college.
It’s the same education at a much lower price.
Just make sure you consult with your counselors to make sure the courses transfer.

I don’t know how it works in Texas, but here in Florida, the community college is cheaper and having an associates degree from the community college (now they’re state colleges), earns you preference when you apply to transfer to university.
If it works the same way in Texas, I’d go the CC - University send.
In Ohio, state schools pretty much have to accept you with an associates. The thing in this area tech schools and community college is just that they’re less “fluffy” as in you don’t need as many bs courses and you dive right into the actual major type work. It’s really beneficial too because if you choose to go on to a 4 year, a lot of your prereqs will probably be knocked out of the way. I obtained an associate’s in business and transitioned to a 4 year and had to take barely any vital classes.
Plus the thing in this area a degree such as IT is that you may possibly make a small money on the side while in teach. Your teach IT department might hire you or allow you to do IT for work study and students always need things fixed and done and what not.
