Question by ALC: University courses Biology or History? HELP!!?
i’m currently in year 12, so next year (year 13) i will be applying for university. i have never really known what i want to do as a career but lately i have been taking into account becoming a forensic scientist (no not because i delight in silent witness), so if i chose that as my career it would probably be best to do a biology degree.
But, i find history a far more fascinating subject then biology, even though i don’t want to do anything to do with history (although i delight in finding out how stuff happened i.e forensic science so maybe archeology wouldn’t be such a terrible career)
I have also recently found that it would be best if i had an a level in chemistry ,which i am not studying ,and so would have to study it as an as level in year 13 (as well as all my other subjects) and i don’t particularly delight in chemistry.
Its a lot of information i know, but the main question is should i take an as level in chemistry in year 13 and do a degree in biology, or should i do a degree in history ,which i delight in more ,even though i don’t want to do a career in it? (phew)

Yeah, Biology (maybe even an Anthropology insignificant) will be the best option. You’ll need to do an internship. So, make sure you take a Human Osteology course, so you can enter an internship the summer between your Junior and Senior years at College.
I never liked Chemistry either, but it’s essential for your chosen degree. (Bio… Just wait til you hit your Biochem course… yuck)
If you choose Bio isn’t for you, you can do a BA in History. People with their BA make more than those who don’t have a degree. So, it’s better to have a BA in History than no degree at all. Since you like History, maybe you can do your major in History, with a Bio insignificant. This will lessen your Science requirements. The Internship is the most vital part of becoming a forensic Scientist. Responsibility a Master’s in Forensic Sciences is a fantastic option too. http://www.drexelmed.edu/Home/AcademicPrograms/ProfessionalStudiesintheHealthSciences/Programs/MasterofForensicScienceMFSProgram.aspx Here’s a excellent MFS program. If you get into friend with a program like this while you’re still in undergrad, you can keep on top of what requirements you’ll need to get in.
